Landscaping for a re-design of your home’s exterior appearance can be a good investment if done right. But getting a landscaping job without first taking care of your garden can result in a look that doesn’t look appealing. So your garden plays a pivotal part in the makeover that you’re ready to delve into, and it will also help for better structure of your lawn.To make sure that your garden is up to par, consider the following gardening tips:

Pruning is an essential part of your gardening plan, and it plays a key role in the overall appearance of your garden makeover. Whenever you prune your plants and don’t like what you have done, don’t fret. Simply start over and start growing that plant again.

2) Don’t water during the day

When summer time comes around, you could experience a few problems in your garden do to the high humidity that summer weather brings. But to avoid getting your plants and garden wet, simply store them in for night. This will help prevent damage from occurring to your plants and will allow you to sustain the garden look that you’re looking for.

3) Remove all mildew

Removing mildew should be an integral part of your gardening strategy. To keep your garden up to date and fresh, mildew needs to be accounted for and dealt with accordingly. One of the most common forms of mildew that is found in gardens is powdery mildew, and it mostly takes its toll on ornamental plants.

Powdery mildew leaves a white stain on the leaves of your plants, and plants such as Dogwoods and Sand cherry also get affected by this fungus. You can help stop the growth of this fungus by spraying your plants with fungicide. This will prevent the formation of this fungus and will help you to eliminate all other kinds of funguses also.

4) Prevent the fire blight fungus

Fire blight is another fungus that is known to grow and affect plants during the summer time. It usually affects apple trees, crabapple trees, and a few other kinds of plants. You’ll know if your plants have the fire blight fungus if any of the branches on the plant turns red and then slowly withers away. To remove and prevent fire blight, you should prune the affected branches and remove it from as far as the plant as possible.

One other thing that you should know about the affected branches is that you should burn it since it is contagious and can spread. To prevent it from spreading from other parts of the plant, you should dip good parts of the affected plant into alcohol.

5) Remove the pythium blight fungus

Pythium blight is a fungus that occurs usually at night. It grows in very humid conditions and usually starts to take its toll on wet grasses during the night. You’ll know if you have it by looking at your grass in the morning time. It looks like cotton candy on the top of your plants. To prevent it, you should water your plants in the day time as early as possible.

All 5 of these tips will help you to take care of your garden while avoiding as much funguses as possible. You should start using them today to start taking better care of your garden tomorrow.

It is said “Gardening requires a lot of water – most of it in the form of perspiration” (Lou Erickson). Of course, a couple-of-hours of toil and bending over shrubs will make a whole lot of difference. Well, if you are one of those people still wishing you had a greener garden and have no idea where or how to begin; here are some simple pieces of advice.

Firstly, plan what exactly you want depending on your budget and size and type of your garden. It is impossible to think of a tall Beech Tree at the centre of a tiny terrace. It would take up too much space, block sunlight and also take years to grow fully. You should rather go for a few potted, finely pruned rose bushes and some Money Plants like Lunaria (tiny bush with purple flowers). Did you know that weeds are able to grow well in the driest environments? Yes they can! Hence, you may try decorating your front garden with a few weed plants. Wild Violets are easy to grow. Its flowers are indeed attractive. However, when you have planted half a dozen weedy plants, you must keep a close eye on them. Weeds can multiply faster than you want them to. Here, you may need professional guidance to keep everything under control.

Lemon Lights have attracted domestic gardeners over centuries. Its sparkling yellow wonderfully matches the charming white of the Ash Leaf, both of them being easy-to-grow. The delicious honey scent of the Sweet Alyssum towards the East end and the vanilla fragrance of Heliotrope in the opposite end will make the working hours in your garden even pleasanter.

Organizing your resource is also important. If you are living in an area with constant rainfall, then purchasing round-the-clock fountains would do no good. You may think of a miniature artificial waterfall bordered with Cardinal plants instead. Some of the other factors that should be essentially considered are sunlight, soil texture and water availability. Of course, the science behind precise gardening is not easy to understand. For example water – it is not just water but water salinity, pH, water mineral abundance, etcetera, etcetera – alone is a whole new subject. But a realistic gardener worries little about all these complexities. It only takes proper inspection and practice to create an artistic, hence attractive garden.

Then comes the real troubles; the unwanted weeds and animal pests. Many gardeners complain about garden snails munching off the edges of their perfect-shaped plant leaves. Then there are the fungi, discoloring the healthy shaded greenery and the invasive grasses that absorb all the nutrients off the earth. A talented gardener should know how exactly to choose the proper weedicides or insecticides and apply them during the correct period. Here again, you may need the opinions of a professional gardener, in order to avoid unnecessary expenditure.

Finally, comes the manipulation of the other resources – the so-called “garden accessories”. Pots, rocks, pebbles, statues and many other similar gadgets, play vital roles in an eye catching garden. Having a classy taste when choosing the above is important. A tiny birdbath surrounded by healthy Bougainvillea will not only add glamour to your garden, but also attract pollinators. Rows of vertical chains dangling from the roof gutter can collect rain water and direct them to a drain system, spreading the water throughout the garden. A few garden lights of faint blue will keep your front yard attractive during night time.

As a gardener, there are only a few things one should always wear on their sleeve, out of which creativity is the most important.

Spring is here and many people are contemplating starting a garden. It’s a great idea – you can save money by growing your own food and it’s also great for the environment. If you’ve always dreamed of starting a garden but didn’t know how or where to start – we’ve got 7 simple tips that can help you decide what kind of garden you want for your home, and how you can get started: 1. Picking the right spot – In urban environments, a gardener is usually limited to the amount of space available. Vegetables generally need at least 6 hours of sun per day, however if your yard is mostly shaded there are still a lot of great options available for your garden. Leafy vegetables can grow with as little as three hours of sun, or moderately spotty shade, per day. Lettuce, arugula, collard greens and even broccoli and peas can all thrive in a semi-shady environment. 2. Choose what you want to grow – Based on the locations available to you, make some wise choices about what will grow in your garden. Many new gardeners like to start small in order to get the feel for their newly acquired green-thumb. Vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce and beans give a longer harvest and are wise choices for a novice gardener. 3. Raised beds – If you have the space, a raised bed can provide many benefits to your garden. Raised beds are built on top of your native soil, so if your soil is not up to par, a raised bed offers the alternative of incorporating non-native soil into your garden. Proper soil is a crucial part of having a successful garden and many people choose raised beds in order to have maximum control over this element. 4. Compost – Speaking of soil, nothing helps plants grow better than natural, organic fertilizer. You can produce your own organic fertilizer by starting a compost pile. Compost is a soil conditioner, mulch and fertilizer all in one. Compost is created by layering equal amounts of kitchen waste and soil and periodically turning the pile. Kitchen waste can include: banana peels, egg shells, old lettuce leaves, coffee grounds, etc – almost any kind of organic matter can be used. You should not put meat scraps, dairy products, wood ashes or sawdust in your compost pile as this waste has a negative effect on the decomposition of the pile. Composts can be hosted directly in the ground, in bins or in back porch compost tumblers. Compost piles are a great way to have access to nourished soil and they provide better a better alternative for food that would normally go to waste. 5. Indoor gardening – If your yard doesn’t provide enough space for you to create a raised bed garden – don’t fret! Any window that gets at least 6-8 hours of sunlight a day can support a windowsill garden. If you are completely new to gardening and want to simply get your feet wet, grow herbs first, which provide a tasty compliment to any meal. 6. Rooftop gardens – If you’re really limited on green space, look up! Rooftop gardens in urban areas are really gaining momentum. They take a little extra work but they make great use of frequently unused and wasted space. Make sure you are aware of local ordinances, rental property rules or home owner association regulations before you begin constructing your garden oasis. Evaluate the structure of your rooftop, account for the increased amount of wind your garden will be exposed to, and determine how you are going to get water to your rooftop garden. With a little hard work, you will not only be able to enjoy the food your garden provides, but you will also create a relaxing summer retreat. 7. Join a CSA – If you are unable to start your own garden due to lack of proper space, time or any other reason, consider joining a CSA. CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) are an increasingly popular way for people to get fresh produce without having to grow it themselves. Members who subscribe to a CSA get a box of mixed variety produce once a week from a local farm. A mutually beneficial relationship is formed between the farmer, who gains financial support, and the consumer, who receives a wide variety of foods harvested at their peak of freshness, ripeness, flavor and vitamin and mineral content.

Whether it’s in your backyard, your window or on your roof, a vegetable garden is a great way to enjoy the freshest produce and the passing season by watching Mother Nature do her thing. You will likely enjoy your food much more knowing all the work that was put into it. Remember that you will get better at gardening as the seasons and years go by. Practice makes perfect. As you perfect this pastime, make sure your friends and family are ready for the abundance of vegetables will likely be offering up to them when your garden really starts to take off.

These are a few of the qualities a garden needs in order to become the place you love most, the place which offers you the tranquility you need. Every garden is beautiful as long as it hosts at least one aquatic element. Even if it is a small river or a fountain, a pond or a pool, the aquatic element represents a sensorial point of attraction as well as a system of environment’s natural adjustment. An idea of a water garden would be creating an artificial water course which gives birth to a beautiful fountain. Fountains represent an attraction wherever they are located. A fountain in a garden gives the impression of continuity, of time going by and also, of an aristocratic view upon what stylish really means. The base of the fountain can hold an assortment of aquatic plants, such as arrowheads, papyrus, and brightly blooming water lilies.

Another interesting idea for a water garden can be represented by the marvelous waterfalls. Of course, these have to be created with a lot of taste, as not to transform the piece of art into kitsch, a mistake in which everyone might fall very easy. For example, a waterfall could be made of artificial water lily leaves, surrounded by metallic statues which can represent a child collecting river rocks. The surroundings could be formed of rocks and pebbles, containing one and only spot color, a water salad.

In addition to this, using contrasts is another plus of your water garden. If you have water curtain trickling down a black plastic front, you can use this element in order to create a spectacular effect. How? The answer is simple: through introducing a contrasting element. So it is that you have to expose that corner of your garden by putting a decorative plant on the background (a decorative onion) coloured in contrasting shades. For the ones who don’t know, the decorative onion looks like a purple fluffy ball which would perfectly oppose the non-coloured aspect of your waterfall. Another idea would also stand in the wonderful water mills which give the impression of a picturesque piece of heaven. They are preferred by many persons owing to their never ending similarities with our ancients, with our past and that is exactly the reason why they are used in every other possible environment (terraces, charades, cocktails, etc).

The idea of a crawl has also been highlighted a lot lately due to its enlightening atmosphere and tranquility effect created especially by a carpet of shells lying on the bottom of it. The sea side atmosphere along with the imaginary sound of the waves and a path of sand at the edges of the crawl, all lead to a mystical atmosphere of magic.

Gardening is one of those hobbies that never grow old throughout the years. Perhaps because it is relaxing, fulfilling, and productive at the same time. If you are thinking of growing your own garden, and whether you choose to grow beautiful flowers or fruits and green leafy vegetables, here are a few gardening tips that can get you started:

Tomatoes are one of the easiest fruits to grow in your very own garden. They are the most common fruits to plant as they are not only delicious, but they can be used in a wide variety of recipes. Tomato seeds are easy to find, and full-grown tomatoes are even easier to sell.

One gardening tip when it comes to planting tomato seeds is to embed them in the soil about six to eight weeks before frost arrives. You also have the option to buy partially grown tomatoes. Start by choosing the right spot in your garden where the plants are going to be constantly exposed to sunlight. Cultivate the soil then dig holes for the plants. One you have them embedded in the soil, you are good to go. All you have to do is water them on a daily basis. One of the best gardening tips when it comes to growing tomatoes is to plant them during warm weather.

Planting flower bulbs is also a great gardening activity. Flower bulbs are also very simple to grow. In fact, hardest part in growing flower bulbs is usually the part where you have to decide which flowers to plant. If you are growing a garden for the first time, then flower bulbs are one of your best options. They require minimum care. All you have to do is prepare the soil, put some fertilizer in it, and plant the flower bulbs in the holes.

There are so many flowers and plants that you can use to grow, and still more gardening tips to learn to help you grow your very first home garden.

There could be a lot at stake if a criminal should ever happen to successfully break into your home. There’s nothing worse than finishing work and coming back to an empty house. You work too long and hard everyday to make it easy for criminals to take your valuables. That’s why you should consider the following simple yet sometimes surprising home security tips.1. Most criminals are going to try entering through a door first. Therefore, just having new and functional locks on them can help a lot. Many houses are starting to get older and it’s quite possible that their locks have never been changed out for new ones. Old locks are easier for criminals to manipulate than brand new, high quality locks and replacing them is a fairly inexpensive proposition.2. If they cannot enter through a door, criminals will end up trying a window. Surprising to many people, rose bushes are great home security additions when it comes to safeguarding these entry points. Lets face it, criminals are not gardeners, at least for the most part. They’re not about to prune your rose bushes to gain entry into your home. If it’s going to be too much trouble to get in through a window, they’ll probably just forget about doing it.3. Criminals like to target houses where people aren’t home, especially if the residents are away for an extended period of time. In the realm of home security, appearances matter. Next time you go on vacation, have a neighbor bring in the newspapers for you. A pile of newspapers in your driveway is a dead giveaway that you’re not home, while no newspapers at all usually indicates that you are.4. Dog is man’s best friend for a reason. If you think about it, they’ve always been like mini home alarm systems. They’re constantly on the lookout for intruders using their advanced intrusion sensors, which come in the form of their ears and nose. As soon as they detect something, they will bark loudly. This will notify you that something is wrong in just the same way an alarm system would. They’re the perfect companion for you and your alarm system should you happen to get one.5. This brings up the point that home alarm systems are one of the most effective measures that you can have implemented. They make use of door, window, and motion sensors that will be placed all around your home. As soon an intrusion is detected, the alarm will ring extremely loudly and local police will be dispatched to your home. Ironically, the most effective part of the system is probably the alarm company sign that will be posted in your front yard. Most criminals will turn away once they see such a sign.6. An alarm system is only as effective as you allow it to be. That’s why you should always arm it and make use of it, even if you’re just going to the grocery store for a few minutes. You never know when a criminal will strike.

There are numerous amount of resourves exists for proper home staging techniques. Usually when home staging is brought up the focus shifts to wall color, interior decor and decluttering, but in addition to there being much more to be done on the interior, there is the often overlooked curb appeal factor to consider. Yes staging a home also applies to the exterior. Curb appeal means making a good first impression may allow potential homebuyers to be more open minded on their first walkthrough of your home.

Home staging is defined as the preparation of a home for sale with major emphasis on presentation and visual appeal. This goes above and beyond expected repairs to the home and actually crafts a visual appearance so that potential buyers will not be distracted by clutter or personal belongings, will feel comfortable and envision themselves living in the home.

Not only is a quicker sale one of the desirable outcomes, but sometimes also the ability to get a higher price. Your home is made to appeal to the largest possible audience and give it optimal chances for a quick and profitable sale. How many situations have there been, where a buyer is distracted by items in the home or off-putting wallpaper and colors to simply dismiss the house in favor of the next showing they go to. Although we think rational people will not behave this way, there is a subtle appeal of a staged home that presents the home in it’s best possible light and somehow feels more move-in ready. In the current buyer’s market, you need every advantage you can get to sell your home for the best possible price.

In our Oakville home, we had a friend offer an impartial look at the front exterior and that creates an alert to upgrade items such as painting doors and shutters, lawn repair or even fresh sod in this case, add fresh mulch to garden beds and around trees, add a few potted flowers, yellow plants near a home’s entry are a good choice. Dispose of weeds, front yard clutter and rake up any leaves. Trim bushes and hedges and in general make the yard look well kept. You can add outdoor furniture such as a bench or even a couple of sitting chairs if you have the layout for it. There was room for a single bench that was implemented.

The next area to have a closer look at will be the entry area of your home once the front door is opened. Simply decluttering this space and cleaning it will go a long way to improving first impressions. There should be plenty of light and invest in a new welcome mat if you don’t have one or if the old one is worn.

There are many more helpful home staging tips to share ranging from which are the current and trendy color schemes to decluttering advice, the necessary removal of all personal photographs and trinkets from the staged home, and even renting furniture if necessary to give a particular room a more upscale or neutral appeal.

A local Oakville home staging company can help Southern Ontario residents and real estate agents turn the ordinary into extraordinary.
